About This ContentThe single engine Piper Cherokee is one of the most common and standard general aviation aircraft, designed for flight training, air taxi and personal use.
The first PA-28 received its type certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration in 1960, and the series remains in production to this day. All members of the PA-28 family are all-metal, unpressurized, single-engined, piston-powered airplanes with low-mounted wings and tricycle landing gear. They all have a single door on the copilot side, which is entered by stepping on the wing.
The Piper PA28 Cherokee 180F from Carenado includes a highly detailed interior and exterior model, full moving and animated rudder and flaps, light effects and also a brilliant interactive virtual cockpit. The ultra-realistic performance is based on a detailed documentation and observation of experienced Piper pilots.
It's a little rough around the edges, but it's decent. Everything works as intended. Perfect for VFR and circuits. A bit overpriced for the quality, A2A Simulation's Cherokee is way better.. The flight center I'm taking my flight lessons from uses PA28s (granted, they're the 161, not the 180), so I figured this would be pretty helpful as a personal training tool. I've been flying the things for just under 2 and a half years, and from what I can tell so far, the flight model on this is pretty faithful to the real thing. The panel layout also feels very familiar, with only a few differences (I can chalk that up to it beign a different model though). The only real problem I've noticed is that the turn coordinator tends to go a little nuts when you bank even slightly. I dip the wings into a standard rate turn, and the indicator shows the plane practically going knife-edge.
